Inde Navarrette has offered an initial glimpse into her portrayal of Rogue, a significant character in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of X-Men. The official announcement of Navarrette’s casting was made by Marvel at D23 earlier this year, confirming her role in the highly anticipated film, which is slated for release on May 5, 2028. This marks a notable career step for the actress, who gained considerable recognition this summer following the success of her work in "Obsession."

During a carpet interview with the Canadian news program Etalk, a reporter noted the public's anticipation for Navarrette’s take on Rogue’s Southern accent. The actress was specifically asked to provide a sneak peek at Rogue’s well-known catchphrase, "Sugar." Responding with a smile, Navarrette delivered the line, acknowledging she had not yet dedicated extensive practice to the accent. She conveyed her commitment to developing the accent further, stating her intention to "work on it" and collaborate with the Marvel team on the final approach. This indicates a collaborative approach to character development with the film's creative team.

The character of Rogue, known in the Marvel Comics as Anna Marie, has a distinct background; she originates from Mississippi. Her powers are unique, involving the capacity to temporarily absorb the powers and memories of others. This detail from the comics establishes the foundational elements of the character Navarrette is set to embody.

Navarrette joins a substantial ensemble cast for the new X-Men film. Other confirmed cast members include Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, Asa Germann as Angel, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister. Jake Schreier has been named as the director for the project, overseeing the creative direction of this new iteration of the X-Men universe.

In a recent episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Navarrette spoke about her excitement for taking on the persona of Rogue. She underscored that acting provides "the freedom of being a completely different person," highlighting her approach to embodying Anna Marie. Navarrette also expressed her intention to pay homage and respect to the Marvel writers and director Jake Schreier, while simultaneously adding her "own sauce" to the character's interpretation. She views this role as an opportunity for creative exploration and faithful adaptation.

Outside of her commitments to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Navarrette is also preparing for a new venture. She is slated to star in and executive produce "The Waffle House Index," a sci-fi thriller produced by Apple Original Films, further diversifying her work in the industry.
