Trader Joe's is set to open a new location in Anaheim Hills this week. This local expansion for the grocery chain includes another planned opening in West Jordan, Utah, during the same period. Residents of Anaheim Hills can anticipate the arrival of the new store as the company continues its regional growth.

This week's openings contribute to a broader expansion trend for Trader Joe's, particularly across the state of Washington. According to analysis from the company's website, 16 new stores have begun operations since the start of 2026. This includes a recent opening in Woodinville, Washington, on May 15, located along NE Woodinville Duvall Road. Looking ahead, the company has also listed new stores in Spokane Valley and Seattle’s Northgate neighborhood as "coming soon," indicating further growth in Washington State, though specific grand opening dates for these locations have not yet been decided.

Trader Joe's, which was founded in Pasadena, California, by Joe Coulombe in 1967, has established a substantial presence in the Western United States. Its footprint in Washington alone is considerable, with 30 stores currently operating across 20 different cities. The grocer's continued expansion reflects its ongoing strategy to serve more communities with its distinctive offerings.

The chain is recognized for offering an array of unique and interesting products, alongside everyday grocery basics. Earlier this year, Trader Joe’s added two new items to its own Product Hall of Fame: teeny tiny avocados and spiced cider. Its most recent customer choice awards also highlighted popular products among shoppers, including steamed pork and ginger soup dumplings, butternut squash mac and cheese, steamed chicken soup dumplings, sourdough bread, and butter chicken with basmati rice.

Beyond its product selection and expansion, Trader Joe’s operates a "Neighborhood Shares" program, which received praise from Spike O’Neill on "The Jake and Spike Show" on KIRO Newsradio in 2025. This program is dedicated to donating 100% of the company's unsold products to local non-profit organizations. The initiative aims to reduce hunger and minimize food waste, forming partnerships with 2,100 organizations nationwide. O’Neill specifically applauded the company for making significant efforts and allocating company resources and staff to ensure that no produce goes to waste, thereby distributing these items to families in need. This commitment to community support is a significant aspect of the grocer’s operations.
