Disneyland experienced significant flooding Friday night after an intense, sudden cloudburst turned parts of the Anaheim theme park into a soggy landscape. The downpour, lasting approximately 15 minutes, overwhelmed storm drains and sent water spilling across pedestrian paths, disrupting outdoor attractions and impacting visitors.

The National Weather Service had forecasted regional rainfall totals of about 25 millimeters across Southern California for Friday. However, the sudden deluge caught many parkgoers unprepared, leading to considerable standing water in various areas of the resort. Footage shared online depicted ankle-deep floodwaters in prominent locations, including outside Frontierland’s Pioneer Mercantile and Shooting Exposition. Visitors navigated cautiously, picking their way along garden edges and climbing onto benches to avoid the rising water.

Pools of standing water were also observed in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and around the Haunted Mansion, leaving many guests frustrated as their outing became a challenging experience. One visitor noted on social media that their weather app had initially indicated no rain, only to quickly update to a flash flood warning, highlighting the unexpected nature of the storm.

In Fantasyland, stormwater backed up between Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Matterhorn Bobsleds, transforming pedestrian lanes into flowing streams. Even protective shade canopies above outdoor dining hubs were affected, overflowing under the weight of the rain and depositing cascades of water directly onto seating areas below.

Disneyland Cast Members quickly responded to the challenging conditions, acting with brooms and squeegees to clear clogged drains and remove debris. Their efforts were aimed at preventing the water from spreading further across the park. Parkgoers documented these efforts, acknowledging the crucial role staff played in managing the immediate aftermath of the flooding.

The widespread water issues extended beyond the park's entrance to the resort’s primary transport hubs. Standing water accumulated across the Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals parking tram terminals, creating difficulties for guests, particularly families with strollers, as they attempted late-night departures.

In response to the severe weather, Disneyland management temporarily suspended outdoor rides across the park. This decision was made after lightning was detected over Orange County. Additionally, the evening’s fireworks display was cancelled due to the combined risks of high winds, wet weather, and lightning. Operations teams continued to work late into the night, focusing on clearing debris and pumping away standing water to prepare the resort for weekend crowds.

While the National Weather Service had provided a regional forecast, the localized intensity and suddenness of the cloudburst presented unforeseen challenges for the theme park and its visitors, leading to a memorable, albeit soggy, Friday evening for many.
